84 bikes donated to Brisbane youth program, Traction Cycles

Traction Cycles has recently taken delivery of 84 new BMX bikes donated by means of the Pedal Group Earning To Give initiative.

The DK BMX bikes have been put to good use by Traction, including two bikes that have been used as teaching aids. Participants have pulled them apart and re-built the bikes this week at the Capalaba workshop as part of their first day at Traction.

The remaining bikes will be put back into the community via Traction's partnership with local schools, and some bikes will be used to raise funds with a raffle at their upcoming "Canapés In The Shed" event.

Traction Cycles is one of four primary beneficiaries of Pedal Group's "Earning To Give" program which allows every employee at Pedal Group to nominate a charity to receive a donation equivalent to 1% of their yearly earnings.

Traction Cycles received a $10,912 donation which they used to purchase 84 bikes. The donation came from 20 employees who all nominated Traction Cycles as their chosen charity to support.

In addition to these 84 bikes, our North Lakes store has donated 3 bikes to Traction Cycles, and we're in discussion with Traction to offer some work experience placements for participants who would like some real-world bike maintenance experience.

About Traction Cycles:

Based in Capalaba, Queensland. A community-based program helping young people discover their talents, build self-belief and create their own successful futures. 12-15 year old 'Bikers' (participants) refurbish donated bicycles in a hands-on learning environment of creativity, empowerment and ownership.

Funds donated will purchase brand new BMX bikes in boxes to the Traction warehouse. The 'Bikers' learn to build the bike and great care is then taken to find very worthy community recipients of each bike.
